About ContractorMargin.com
ContractorMargin.com builds free, trade-specific profit calculators for the 14 most common residential and commercial contracting trades in the United States.
Why we built this
Most contractors price jobs by gut or by copying the last bid. The result: razor-thin margins, jobs that lose money, and businesses that grind without ever really growing. A $50,000 roofing job with $46,000 in real costs leaves 8% — not enough to survive a slow quarter. Contractors need to see margin before the bid goes out, not after the check clears.
What we do
Every calculator on ContractorMargin.com is built around the cost structure of a specific trade — not a generic spreadsheet. Roofing is priced by squares and pitch. Flooring is priced by square footage and material tier. Landscaping maintenance is priced by revenue-per-hour. Each calculator reflects that reality with pre-filled 2026 industry defaults, complexity adjustments, and benchmark comparisons that tell you instantly whether your bid is healthy or bleeding.
Where our benchmarks come from
Our benchmark ranges are compiled from public NAHB cost studies, IBISWorld industry reports, Bureau of Labor Statistics data, and published trade-association surveys for 2026. Regional rates vary — the numbers are a starting point, not a ceiling. Always verify against your own historical job costs before trusting an estimate.

Who built this
ContractorMargin.com is an independent project. We're not a software company trying to upsell you into a CRM. If you've got feedback, corrections on a benchmark, or a trade that deserves a calculator of its own, reach out.
